Built between 1895 and 1897, Rheinbrücke Eglisau is a historic masonry railway bridge.
The inspection combined drone acquisition with detailed image analysis. Of 15,000 inspection images, more than 13,500 were collected automatically along a predefined flight path. SwissInspect used image-based inspection and AI to map cracks at pixel level and classify them by width. The analysis also identified deteriorated masonry and approximately 88,000 individual stones. A machine learning model was then used to classify these stones into several categories including mortar stones, natural stones, etc.
Mapped cracks and individual stones give engineers a detailed visual record to help interpret the condition of the masonry and plan further assessment.
